Marvel Vampires

Some of you may  remember when the whole Zombie bit was the rage, (in a way, it still is...) and Marvel Comics jumped on that band wagon with the whole Marvel Zombies Series, along with variant editions of their mainstream comics comics that featured alternate (and more expensive) zombie covers.

Well...guess what?

With the very popular Twilight Saga getting so much attention both in the news and media, Marvel Comics has decided to jump on THAT band wagon as well.

And in case you didn't realize it, Twilight is about...well, as you MIGHT have guessed...

Vampires.

Here are some upcoming Vampire Variant editions of a few Marvel Comic Books.

(Click on the images to see them in a high resolution.)

In addition, there will be a whole new storyline dealing with the X-Men titled "Curse of the Mutants" where they do battle with Vampires.

The person being depicted on this particular Vampire Variant Cover is none other than Vlad Dracula himself!

To be fair though, Marvel Comics has been doing the Vampire thing since the early 60's. They actually had a comic book titled "The Tomb of Dracula" and one of the more memorable stories from that series was when he did have a conflict with Doctor Strange.

Also, the character known as Blade, made popular by the movies starring Wesley Snipes...

...actually started out as a supporting character in the Dracula series, and later got more of a spotlight in the Marvel Preview Magazine.

Marvel had also came up with their own Vampire Superhero in the form of a character named Morbius, who started out as an adversary for Spider-Man.

Morbius was also actually featured in the whole Marvel Zombies storyline I had mentioned before, so I am almost positive that he will make an appearance with the whole new Marvel Vampires.

I can't help but to now wonder...since George Lucas decided to jump on the whole Zombie band wagon with the Star Wars: Death Troopers storyline, will Vampires soon show up in that all too familiar galaxy that is far, far away? Personally...THAT would not surprise me one bit.

  1. Let's not give credit to twilight for marvel's rise of the vampires let give that to true blood or the success of marvel's Anita Blake vampire hunter series based off Laurell K. Hamilton novels.

  2. @Dar: Yeah, I totally hear ya with that one. Interestingly enough, I've been "infected" because a LOT of gals I work with are Twilight Fans and I hear them talking about it all the time. Personally, I've always been a fan of Morbius meself.

@Amy: Methinks this is one of them waves we need to surf out for a while...and NOT get washed out be the effect! Hehe!

  3. I've never seen that Blade cover before. Very interesting.

I ended up liking X-Men #1 (as you know). I've tended to stay away from most of the vampire franchises that have come out in the last ten years or so except for Whedon's vampires.

  4. I know what ya mean. I always liked Vampires, but not the type that glisten, ya know?
